Hacks to Help Deal with Snow

shoveling snow

Dealing with snow in the morning is something we all approach with a deep sense of resignation. Just something to get done in order to move on with the day. Save yourself some time and effort with these smart life hacks.

Put Non-Stick Cooking Spray on Your Shovel

As anyone who’s shoveled snow can attest, there are different types. While some slides right off the shovel, there are snows that like to clump up and weigh down your shovel and refuse to come off. This can make shoveling extra tedious. You can avoid this issue completely by spraying non-stick cooking oil on your shovel’s surface. Snow will slide right off when you want it to.

Wear Socks Over Your Boots

It may sound funny, but they add extra traction to your footing and make sure you don’t lose your balance. Just buy a pair of extra large socks that have the space to accommodate your boots or shoes and see how well you can stay on your feet without slipping and sliding.

Avoid Shoveling Altogether

To avoid snow and ice altogether, put tarps down wherever you wish no snow to be in the morning. Just stretch the tarps down tight over sidewalk, driveway, or even your car and weigh them down with cinderblocks. In the morning, simply peel the tarps up and you’ll have a clean car and a beautiful stretch of concrete to back it down.

Ford Sets Sights on Fully Autonomous Vehicle for Ride Sharing by 2021

Ford has announced that they intend to have a high-volume, fully autonomous vehicle for commercial ride-hailing or ride-sharing service in 2021.

To get there, the company is investing in or collaborating with four startups (Velodyne, SAIPS, Nirenberg Neuroscience LLC, and Civil Maps) to enhance its autonomous vehicle development, doubling its Silicon Valley team and more than doubling its Palo Alto campus.

“The next decade will be defined by automation of the automobile, and we see autonomous vehicles as having as significant an impact on society as Ford’s moving assembly line did 100 years ago,” said Mark Fields, Ford president and CEO. “We’re dedicated to putting on the road an autonomous vehicle that can improve safety and solve social and environmental challenges for millions of people – not just those who can afford luxury vehicles.”

The New Ford GT

If you are in the market for a high-end sports car, test drive the new Ford GT if it becomes available at dealerships like Link Ford Rice Lake. The GT is only available by application process, according to Ford Motor Company. The new GT stole the show at the Detroit auto Show and people are going crazy for it.

Unlike many cars that you can go buy, you’ll have to apply to get one of these coveted Ford GT models. Dave Pericak, the director of Global Ford Performance said that they are “excited by the amount of enthusiasm fans are showing” for this new model. As of late May 2016, almost 11,000 people have shown interest in buying one of the new Ford GT models. By this same time, Ford has already received 6,506 completed applications from all over the world.

Though the Ford GT is expected to bring in about $200 million in revenue for 500 units, the margin is rumored to be quite low. Ford “dropped a hint” at why it would develop and sell a vehicle for little profit: Because they want people to actually drive the vehicle. Ford wants to generate attention for the brand with the new Ford GT and the line of supercars to follow this model.

By 2020, Ford expects to have the rest of the performance lineup on the market. Ford will be taking advantage of the market for sports cars. The Mustang was never sold on a global scale prior to 2015; and the 2015 Mustang was the Number 1 sports car in Germany.

Ford Mustang On Top

Ford is boosting its sales by expanding sales to Europe, including right-hand drive Mustangs for Great Britain. While Ford has never sold vehicles in Europe, the auto manufacturer’s popularity encouraged it to sell it vehicles across the Big Pond.

The new Mustang, now available at Link Ford of Minong, has been revamped with foreign sales in mind because it was the best-selling sports coupe in 2015. Last year, Ford sole 141,000 Mustangs; and of those, 19,000 were sold outside of the United States. About 16,000 of those were sold in Europe. Even with high gas prices in Europe, the high-performance V-8 is popular.

Erich Merkle, a Ford sales analyst, figures that we in the United States have been enjoying foreign sports cars for many years; and now figures it’s time for Americans to make our sports cars available to Europe.

At the Mustang plant in Flat Rock, Michigan, 110,000 Mustang coupes and 30,000 convertibles were built. With the addition of more European sales, the plant could see an increase in work. This is a major deal for Ford since the Mustang was never seriously thought of as a vehicle for the world market. This was in part due to the features that were not good for that market; however, Ford made those changes, knowing that those changes could alienate local buyers. But, the changes have been accepted by fans in the United States if sales numbers are any indication.

Ford News: Upcoming SUV Models

When you visit Jack Link’s Auto and RV Center, you may be looking for a new SUV, and you won’t be disappointed. Now is the perfect time to lease or purchase a new Ford SUV because by 2020, Ford will be adding four new SUV models to its lineup – and you’ll be ready to test drive one of those new models four or five years from now.

According to Mark LaNeve, vice president of sales and marketing at Ford, SUV sales have almost doubled in the United States since 2010 due to consumer preference. SUV models are more practical than passenger cars, and they are especially useful to people with families or who like to go on road trips. If you’re the type of person who likes crafts or is often at the home improvement store, SUV models have more cargo space, especially when you can put the seats down. And they have one benefit over a pickup truck: Your stuff stays dry if you want to pick up landscaping material on a rainy day.

In a meeting with reporters after a speech to the Midwest Automotive Media Association, LaNeve stated that consumers were moving toward SUV models instead of passenger cars for the past six years; and that he believes that will continue to happen, regardless of fuel prices.

According to an article in the Chicago Tribune, 52 percent of the market in the United States in 2010 went to passenger cars; however only 41 percent went to passenger cars in 2015. And SUV sales have grown to 6.3 million from 3.5 million since 2010.

Current Lineup

Currently, the Ford SUV lineup consists of the Escape compact crossover, the Edge midsize crossover, the Explorer midsize SUV, the Ford Flex crossover and the Expedition full-size SUV. As of yet, Ford does not have a subcompact crossover like the Chevy Trax.
